Well it's that time of the year again where sentiments are high, dollars are low and every mirror in the house is covered while I stuff myself with food.
It's Christmas and almost the end of 2012.
Reflecting on the year I feel incredibly grateful. Robin and I celebrated our one year wedding anniversary in October and our first little baby is due next month in January just 15 months after getting married. I have amazing family, friends and colleagues and have made more lovely friends through this wonderful sewing community. I travelled to New York thanks to the 2011 Tessuti Awards and have bought more fabric than my budget allows (whoops).
August 2012 was my third year anniversary since I started sewing for the very first time and I am so excited about the journey that it has taken me on. Sewing has given me a creative outlet, given me clothes that I love to wear, helped me explore my style and allowed me to meet other like-minded people through the blogosphere.
This sewing community has kept me inspired, taught me new skills and given me endless encouragement. So thank you times a million!

I can't decide which one is my favourite. Do you have one?
Thank you for reading my blog and for your super kind words and encouragement throughout the year.
I hope that you and yours all have a wonderful and safe Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Your bright striped dress made from curtain fabric wins my vote. It's fun, unique and fits beautifully. Can't believe you've only been sewing 3 years! Congrats and all the best for 2013!
ReplyDeleteOh that's one of my favourites too! Thank you! It's funny how some times the easiest dresses, or the cheapest fabrics end up being our favourite creations. This dress is an example of that.
DeleteHope you have a sewing filled 2013 :)
The bedazzle dress is my fave. You've had a fabulous year. All the best for baby. My first was a January baby. I can't believe we're gearing up for his 4th birthday already.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! I was about six weeks pregnant with that dress and starting to feel a bit blobbish, so it's nice to hear it's your favourite :)
DeleteThanks for your well wishes, we are very excited! I've heard the time goes so fast in the early years. I reckon we will be blink our eyes and the baby will be four already as well!
Hope you have a fabulous 2013 also.
What a gorgeous collection of creations! (And your best one coming next month - good luck! Very exciting. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Macska! Looking forward to my next adventure. Have a lovely new year x
ReplyDeleteI don't think I can decide on which is may favorite. All are great!
ReplyDeleteI wish you all the best for 2013!
Thanks Miriam! All the best for your sewing creations in 2013!
DeleteAs aforementined all your creations are da bomb, but my personal favourite is the black and white striped skirt, simple but so damn effective.
ReplyDeleteThanks Miss Sassy! Sometimes the simple ones are the best :) happy holidays x
DeleteI love your new pink jacket (for your sis), black lace dress and the multicolour dress with the balloons hehe. Love your blog and congrats with everything you have achieved this year. Your blog is very inspiring!
ReplyDeleteAwesome thanks! They are some of my favourites too. Thanks for your kind words and happy 2013!
DeleteWow. You've really made som beautiful dresses! You're my sewing idol ;)
ReplyDeleteAw thanks Anna! I love all your beautiful vintage dresses!
DeleteI love the first one and the last one.
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting! I like those ones too :)
DeleteYou've had an awesome year and I want to thank you for hosting the Mad Men dress challenge, which was one of the highlights of my sewing/blogging year! It's so hard to choose a favourite project of yours, but if I absolutely had to, I think I'd go for the black and white check silk dupion Burda 7494...delicious! Hope you're enjoying the holidays and can't wait to meet the little one when s/he arrives in Jan!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your feedback Marie! I'm looking forward to doing another challenge soon once everything calms down; they are a lot of fun!
DeleteThanks for your kind words and I hope you have a lovely and safe new year x
Your colour choices, designs, style, flair, model, and photographer are all exceptional! I think the red dress with the sweetheart neckline is stunning. You brighten up my day with your creations! Wishing you all the best for the new year and the new baby... I see cute infant wear coming up! Cheers.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Carolyn, you just brightened up my day with that comment! All the best for the new year to you also :)
DeleteCongratulations on such a fruitful year! What a gorgeous collection! I wish you even better 2013 and lots of creativity and fun projects! Happy new year!
ReplyDeleteThanks Thewallinna, that's the great thing about a blog is that it's a great way to document everything you've done! Hope you also have an even better 2013 full of creative delights :)
DeleteI couldn't decide between the blue and white dress and the Survivor dress. The black dress appeals to me really because the elastic middle is made of awesome. I think what I missed most about moving to Brisbane is that the weather is rarely suitable for wearing bottoms that pull in my 'junk'.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I wish you all the best for 2013. It'll be an adventure, no doubt. Good Luck :-)
Thanks Madam giggles! The blue and white dress probably got the most wear in 2012, well before I was pregnant any way. It's one of those dresses that instantly makes you feel good when you put it on.
DeleteGood luck with 2013! All the best and stay safe :)
The blue "MadMen" dress and the pink coat with the bound buttonholes are endlessly fabulous! I just recently found your blog and am enjoying it very much!
ReplyDeleteOh thank you! I'm glad you found me and thanks for commenting :)
DeleteI covet all of these (and the figure to rock them) -- and I can't pick a favorite. But the Joan knock-off, the black lace number, and the purple cocktail number are strong contenders. Love your sewing. You're a badass. Blogrolled!
ReplyDeleteLady, you are too kind. I have aspired for quite sometime to reach badass status, so this is very exciting especially as your blog is supreme badass. Thanks so much for adding me!
DeleteHi Julia,
ReplyDeleteFirstly Happy New Year to you and Robin and what an exciting year 2013 will be for you both.
I love all the posts of your dresses and my two favourites would have to be the black lace and pink lace dresses - they are so beautiful and you look stunning. I'm also a fan of the Mad Men dresses as you know and I do love the 'Peggy' black and white dress.
You must be looking forward to having your own little bundle of joy and it won't be long now.

Lorraine thank you!
DeleteYes it's not too long now until the newest little Bobbin will be introduced into the world; I can't wait!
Hope you and your daughter have been sewing up a storm :)
All the best to you and yours this New Year xxx
Our next sewing project will be a version of the green dress Keira Knightly wore in 'Atonement'. My daughter bought some of the fabric left over from costumes for the film 'The Great Gatsby' when they had a sale of the props, etc. recently. She will be wearing it to a red carpet function at the Opera House. I can't wait to spend the weekend sewing the dress!
DeleteRegards,
Lorraine

I love seeing all your creations. They always look so polished. Tough to decide on a favourite, but I think it is the mustard and lace dress. With the fruity jacket you made for your sister a very close second. Hope the rest of your pregnancy is relaxed and lovely.
ReplyDeleteOooh, interesting choice! And the first person to pick that dress too, thank you!
DeleteThank you for your well wishes and I hope you have a safe and happy new year xx
Wow! A very productive year in sewing .. You are beautiful inspiration ... I came to wish you Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteThanks Rosy! Most of my garments were sewn in manic timing in the first half of the year. When I got pregnant things slowed down considerably, but I'm looking forward to picking things up again in the new year!
DeleteHappy New Year to you also!
These are all so beautiful! I love them! My favorite is your red button-y version of Butterick 5603-- so gorgeous! Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy, girl!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I love red and I love buttons so this is one of my favourites too. I'm looking forward to eventually being able to fit back into it so that I can wear it again.
DeleteThanks for your kind words and well wishes. All the best for 2013 :)
You are such a talent - they are all a glorious combination of sass and elegance! Great work.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lizzy, you're too kind!
DeleteThanks for reading and I hope you have a safe and happy New Year. All the best for your sewing adventures in 2013 :)
All fabulous creations and the fit is always spot on. My favourite would be the blue and white Joan Holloway copy. Happy 2013, and all the best for motherhood!
ReplyDeleteThanks Miss Lizzie! Well that dress certainly gets a workout, though I haven't worn it for about nine months! Looking forward to being able to slowly start wearing these clothes again. Might take a while thought!
DeleteThanks for your comment and all the best for 2013 :)
Congratulations on such a brilliant year of sewing Julia, you look divine in all of your lovely creations. Happy Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kazz! Happy New Year to us both :)
DeleteYou've been such an inspiration to me and so many others - it's lovely to see all your beautiful creations together in one place. Boy, have you been productive!! :) I love the maternity dresses the most, though - they are so gently feminine and really suit your natural glow :)
ReplyDeleteThey are all amazing, hard to pick out a favorite. I've been sewing for about a year and I pray to the sewing gods that I get as good as you one day! Amazing!
